LEMONADE: Minus Tide ★★★★

One criticism I usually make about an album, is it’s lack of variety but in the case of San Francisco-formed Brooklyn-based Lemonade’s freshly squeezed third album “Minus Tide" that is a form of praise. The cohesive mix works as a complete platform to post-summer blues. “Neptune” from their predecessor “The Diver" caught my attention onto Lemonade, for it’s mix of Enigma meets Jan Hammer and their latest offering continues to intrigue.

The childhood friends are clearly a tight unit in terms of friendship but their connection is also demonstrated in the seamless blend of Ben Steidel’s Bass and Alex Pasternak’s drums with the lush voice of Callan Clendenin.

I struggled to think of a comparison to Lemonade’s contemporary electronic dance and that’s because it’s uniquely their own. It’s like being washed with tidal wave, an ode to the album cover's artwork. Their “Water coloured vision” (Track 4) also incorporates saxophonic bliss and panpipes peacefulness into the cauldron of their creation.

This year, I’ve only come across one other album that transmits the same kind of feel good feeling and that’s Afterlife’s “Shikasta”. If I go on holiday, those two albums must provide the soundtrack. Track 7 “Orchid Bloom” is the misfit of the album becoming predictable and lethargic with every second. However, the tracks that follow (starting with my favourite “Come Down Softly) reinvigorate the album’s quality standard. MTH
