Bit pop

Bitpop/8 bit Chip music:

 

• Is a type of electronic music where at least part of the music has been created using sound chips found inside: Commodore 64, Amiga, Game Boy and Mega Drive.

• The sounds are interwined with traditional instruments such as guitars, drums, modern synthesizers, vocals and drum machines.

• Bitpop is a pun on Britpop

• Sometimes a bitpop production is entirely made of 8-bit sounds with just vocals whilst alternatively it can just be the bassline or the lead melody that is computerized like this.

• German group Welle: Erdball were inspired by Kraftwerk and were pioneers of Bit pop music, which made them highly distinctive.

 

Popularity: 1990s-2000s in US, Japan, Australia, Europe (especially Sweden and Germany)
